Whm. Shibumi 'Purple Rain' 4in
In Spike! (8/26)
Wilhelmara orchids are complex intergeneric hybrids of Rhynchonia Honolulu Rain x Bratonia Charles M. Fitch.
This variety produces 6 inch blooms in a beautiful soft purple-pink with white and yellow spotting. One of the easier hybrids in the Oncidium Alliance, and relatively forgiving with watering mistakes. A rewarding orchid perfect for beginners. Twice a year blooming with flowers that last around 2-3 months.
ONCIDIUM CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Fine bark or fine and long fiber sphagnum mix. Repot in Spring every 1-2 years.
Light: Bright indirect - medium light. Does not care about window direction. Protect leaves from direct sun exposure.
Water: Water frequently in hot months when media reaches dry (about once or twice a week). Slightly more drought tolerant than Miltonia.
Temp: Intermediate-warm (50F min night, 90F max day).
Humidity: 40-80%, tolerant of low humidity but prefers intermediate.
Fertilizing: Heavy feeding Spring-Summer. 1/2 strength urea-free fertilizer, every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Flush the pot once monthly to prevent salt build up. Decrease to once monthly in Winter.
