Stanhopea tigrina var nigroviolacea 2in
This is a particularly attractive very dark form of the species Stanhopea tigrina. Uncommon orchid that will do really well in a greenhouse but isn't recommended for low humidity, household growing. Bucket-like blooms will emerge from the bottom and sides of the plant and last 2-3 days - it is recommended to grow in a basket or pot with large holes in the bottom. Medium-high humidity is necessary for flowers to form. These do not like to stay dry for long and enjoy bright shaded light.
These are appx 1-2 years from blooming size. Unless stated, orchids will not arrive in spike or bloom. Photographed are examples of the flowers. Some variation should be expected.
