Sobennikoffia humbertiana 3in
Fragrant climbing orchid native to Central Madagascar. Very similar to Angraecum or Jumellea in growth habit and preference. Produces plentiful white flowers with vanilla floral fragrance. Prefers to grow mounted and allowed to climb and amble. Prefers high humidity and quick wet/dry cycles but likes to stay on the moist side. Cute little compact plant.
SOBENNIKOFFIA CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Prefers to be mounted with sphagnum or tree fern but will need daily watering in hot months. Can be grown in fine bark or medium bark. Repot every 1-2 years as the media breaks down.
Light: Medium-low light. Window direction doesn't matter, but will need ample shade in South and West facing windows. Protect leaves from direct sun exposure.
Water: Water frequently in hot months when media has reached dry. From Fall-early Spring watering should be scaled back to occasional morning misting to accommodate the dry rest period. High humidity during the hot months will help prevent the media from drying out too quickly. Water at the base of the plant to prevent crown rot.
Temp: Intermediate-warm (55F min night, 90F max day).
Humidity: 60-90%, likes high humidity in hot months with good air circulation.
Fertilizing: Light feeding year round. 1/4 strength urea-free fertilizer, every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Decrease or stop in Winter.
