Paphiopedilum violascens x sib 3in
Couldn't load pickup availability
Paphiopedilum violascens is a rare lady slipper from lowland New Guinea with dark mottled foliage. It is a bit finicky and does not experience a cool period or a dry period. Attention to detail is a must. The reward being a gorgeouys flower with a large green pouch and shimmery purple petals. There aren't too many good photos of them out there.
Photo is representative of blooms you can expect to see but is not the exact bloom of this plant. There is some variety in color, shape and patterning from plant to plant. This is a blooming size plant, but unless stated it will not arrive in bud.
MOTTLED PAPHIOPEDILUM CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Coarse/fine bark mix. Repot carefully in Spring once per year to prevent acidification of bark. Be careful not to damage roots as they will often die off if broken.
Light: Bright indirect light. Place within 3 ft of a bright but indirect light source or window. North facing preferred. Shield from hot South/West afternoon sun.
Water: Water frequently (2-3x per week) in hot months when media reaches dry. Prefers to grow consistently lightly wet. Flush the pot bi-monthly with clean water to prevent salt buildup.
Temp: Intermediate-warm (60F min night, 85F max day).
Humidity: 30-60%, tolerant of moderate-low humidity with adequate watering.
Fertilizing: Heavy feeder during the growing season (Spring-Fall). 1/2 strength urea-free fertilizer every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Decrease to 1/4 or 1/8 strength once monthly in Winter.
