Paphiopedilum Nike's Sunny Delight (Avalon Mist x Pinocchio) 4in
Currently IN SPIKE (12/15).
Paphiopedilums or lady slipper orchids, have characteristic pitcher-like flowers. Although they appear carnivorous in shape and physiology, they do not eat insects. They have very similar care requirements to the more common Phalaenopsis (moth orchid) genus. This Paph is a sequential bloomer meaning it puts out one flower after another for as long as the spike is green. Very rewarding with really cute small pink and green blooms.
Unless stated, the orchid may not be in bloom.
PAPHIOPEDILUM CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Coarse/fine bark mix. Repot in Spring carefully once per year to prevent acidification of bark.
Light: Bright-indirect to medium light. North or East facing is preferred. South or West tolerated, ensure proper shielding to protect leaves from direct sun exposure. Place within 3 ft of a light source or window.
Water: Water frequently in hot months when media reaches dry. Do not allow to stay dry for long periods. Once weekly is a good rule of thumb. Flush the pot monthly to prevent acidification.
Temp: Intermediate-warm (50F min night, 85F max day).
Humidity: 30-60%, tolerant of moderate-low humidity.
Fertilizing: 1/2-1/4 strength urea-free fertilizer, bi-weekly as new roots and leaves emerge. Decrease to monthly in Winter.
