Maxillaria tenuifolia, or the coconut-scented orchid, is a grassy semi-terrestrial orchid that should be in every orchid grower's collection. This is the slightly harder to come by yellow form. Extremely forgiving and easy orchid that likes lots of light and water. Vigorous grower.
MAXILLARIA (WARM) CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Mounted with moss. Potted in fine bark or moss.
Light: Shaded bright-partial direct. Not picky about light. You can blast these ones with light.
Water: Water frequently in hot months as the media reaches dry. Enjoys a mild rest period of decreased watering and fertilizing in winter.
Temp: Intermediate-warm (50F min, 90F max).
Humidity: 50-80%, prefers medium-high humidity. Ensure good air circulation for terrarium or greenhouse growing.
Fertilizing: 1/2 strength urea-free fertilizer, every month as new roots and leaves emerge. Run clean tap water through the growing media once monthly to prevent salt buildup. Feed consistently every other watering Spring-Fall.
