Galeopetalum (Zygolum) Starburst 'Parkside' has bright spotted green and purple blooms. Definitely one of the more striking Zygo hybrids out there. Blooms will be fragrant and smell sweet and spicy. A good orchid for those that like to water. Semi-terrestrial so they prefer denser mix than epiphytic orchids.

Plant may vary from pictured. Will not arrive in spike unless stated.

 

ZYGOPETALUM CARE:

Potting mix: Fine bark or sphagnum/perlite mix. Repot carefully in Spring every two years before fully pot bound.

Light: Bright indirect - medium light. Not picky about window direction if placed within 3 feet. Protect leaves from direct sun exposure.

Water: Water frequently in hot months when media is near dry. Somewhat forgiving with short drought periods but prefers not to stay dry.

Temp: Intermediate-cool (55F min night, 90F max day).

Humidity: 60-70%, tolerant of moderate humidity with adequate watering.

Fertilizing: 1/2-1/4 strength urea-free balanced fertilizer, every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Flush the pot once monthly to remove mineral build up. Decrease to once monthly or stop entirely in Winter.

Excellent plant, beautiful flower!

Starburst 'Parkside' arrived very well packed, in great condition and - Lucky Me! - I happened to get one not only in spike but with the flowers just beginning to open. I already have a Zygopetalum and a couple different intergeneric crosses, and you're right, the flower on this one is especially striking. And even with the first flower newly open, it has an unusual spicy scent - with some kinds of orchids the scent doesn't develop until the flower's been open a couple days. I'm very pleased.
