Den. ochreatum (mount)
Found in the montane forests of Burma and Vietnam. Segments have slightly bulged nodes causing a finger bone-like appearance. Puts out 1-3 flowers from between each bract in late spring. They are yellow waxy blooms with a deep red throat. Pseudobulbs are long and curve upward at the end. Prefers to grow pendulous. Fragrant.
Semi-deciduous, but requires a cooler drier winter rest. Tolerant of extremes.
Blooming size. Plant may vary from the one pictured.
DENDROBIUM CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Coarse orchid bark with perlite or mounted with moss (recommended). Repot in Spring once root bound. Do not allow bark to become waterlogged.
Light: Medium-bright indirect light. Bright North is recommended to protect from heat. Shaded West is ok too. Prefers very bright Winter and slightly darker Spring-Summer as blooms and new growths develop.
Water: Water frequently in hot months when media is dry. Decrease dramatically in cold months, allowing to dry completely between waterings, until new growth appears.
Temp: Cool-warm (45F min night, 95F max day). Prefers cooler.
Humidity: 50-80%, tolerant of lower humidity with adequate watering.
Fertilizing: 1/2-1/4 strength urea-free fertilizer, every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Decrease fertilizing in late fall and omit or use very sparingly in winter. General rule: begin in Spring, stop in Winter.
