Den. christyanum (mount)
Super cute species from the montane cloud forests of northern Vietnam and China. Stays smaller than 6 inches, producing 1-2 large white and orange flowers from each cane in late Spring that last a month or so. Very resilient cool-warm grower but prefers cooler conditions. This one appears to have interesting slightly dwarf blooms. Flowers should be lightly fragrant.
Requires a cooler drier winter rest.
Blooming size. Plant may vary from the one pictured.
DENDROBIUM CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Coarse orchid bark with perlite or mounted with moss. Repot in Spring once root bound. Do not allow bark to become waterlogged.
Light: Medium-bright indirect light. Bright North is recommended to protect from heat. Shaded West is ok too. Prefers bright Winter and slightly darker Spring-Summer as blooms and new growths develop.
Water: Water frequently in hot months when media is dry. Decrease dramatically in cold months, allowing to dry completely between waterings, until new growth appears.
Temp: Cool-warm (45F min night, 90F max day). Prefers cooler.
Humidity: 50-80%, tolerant of lower humidity with adequate watering.
Fertilizing: 1/2-1/4 strength urea-free fertilizer, every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Decrease fertilizing in late fall and omit or use very sparingly in winter. General rule: begin in Spring, stop in Winter.
