Den. capillipes (mount)
Deciduous species native to India, Myanmar, and parts of Thailand. Fragrant egg yolk flowers last only a week or two but the plant stays compact and has cute plump pseudobulbs. A dry winter period is required. Reliable bloomer! Very cute. Blooms in early Spring from leafless canes.
Compact. But as these get older with more growths they can put out an impressive number of blooms.
Blooming size. Plant may vary from the one pictured. Mounted on plastic placard.
DECIDUOUS DENDROBIUM CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Coarse orchid bark or fast-draining bark mix. Mounted with moss and allowed to dangle. Repot in Spring once root bound. Do not allow bark to become waterlogged.
Light: Bright indirect - medium light. Bright North facing preferred. Shielded West is ok if protected from heat and direct sun.
Water: Water frequently in hot months when media is dry. Stop in the cold months, watering only enough to prevent dramatic shriveling of the canes. These enjoy rapid wet/dry cycles.
Temp: Cool-intermediate (45F min night, 80F max day).
Humidity: 40-80%, tolerant of low humidity with adequate watering.
Fertilizing: 1/2 strength urea-free fertilizer, every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Decrease or stop fertilizing in winter. General rule: begin in Spring, stop in Winter.
