Den. aphanochilum x chrysopterum (mount)
In bloom! 6/3/24
Den. aphanochilum is indigenous to Celebes and Den. chrysopterum is a pendulous species from New Guinea. This is an interesting semi-deciduous primary hybrid with very long thin pseudobulbs that produce tubular crystalline flowers in small clusters at their ends. A drier winter period is needed. Blooms from the old canes. Not fragrant as far as we can tell. Blooms at any time of year.
Blooming size. Plant may vary from the one pictured.
NOBILE DENDROBIUM CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Coarse orchid bark or well-draining bark mix. Repot in Spring once root bound. Do not allow bark to become waterlogged.
Light: Bright indirect - partial direct light. Shaded South or West facing preferred. Bright North is also acceptable.
Water: Water frequently in hot months when media is dry. Decrease in the cold months, watering only enough to prevent dramatic shriveling of the canes. These enjoy rapid wet/dry cycles but don't like to stay dry for long.
Temp: Intermediate(55F min night, 85F max day).
Humidity: 50-80%, tolerant of low humidity with adequate watering.
Fertilizing: 1/2-1/4 strength urea-free fertilizer, every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Decrease or stop fertilizing in winter. General rule: begin in Spring, stop in Winter.
