Calathea ornata
Calathea Ornata, the Pinstripe plant, has ornate dark green leaves accented with thin pink lines. More tolerant than its parent Calathea zebrina, it's a good gateway Calathea for learning good watering habits and humidity conditions.
CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Well-draining soil/peat and perlite mix. Prefers a somewhat water-retentive mix of mostly soil and organic matter. Repot in Spring every 1-2 years.
Light: Bright indirect light. Shielded South or West facing preferred.
Water: Water when near dry (1/2-1 inch of the soil is dry).
Temp: Warm (60F min night, 85F max day). Will not tolerate temps lower than 60F.
Humidity: >60%, prefers consistent high humidity when good air flow is provided. Lower humidity may result in crispy leaf edges.
Fertilizing: Slow release fertilizer (Osmocote recommended) applied at the beginning of Spring. Alternatively, 1/2 strength soluble 20-20-20 fertilizer applied semi-frequently (every 3-4 weeks) Spring-Fall. Decrease in Winter.
