Cattleya bowringiana (LARGE) 6in
In Spike! (7/9/24)
Fantastic beginner Cattleya (Guarianthe). The "Autumn Pixie" is native to Central America (Guatemala) and grows further north than most Catts making it quite tolerant to weather fluctuations. Can grow as an epiphyte or lithophyte so media pH is probably not that important. Ridiculously hardy. Will become a tall plant with striking purple-pink blooms.
Photo is representative of the blooms but color and shape may vary. They get deeper violet shades and sometimes lighter blush shades. Petal shape may be more rounded and less wavy. Blooming size plant, will not arrive in bloom.
CATTLEYA CARE INFO:
Potting mix: Coarse orchid bark. Repot when pot bound in Spring.
Light: Bright indirect - partial direct light. Shaded South or West facing preferred.
Water: Water frequently in hot months when media is fully dry, decrease in cold months. After flowering a dry rest period follows.
Temp: Intermediate - Warm (60F min night, 90F max day).
Humidity: 50-80%, not too picky.
Fertilizing: 1/2 strength urea-free fertilizer, every other watering as new roots and leaves emerge. Do not fertilize during winter rest period after flowering until new growth is observed in spring.
